K-Drama Review: Ghost Doctor: Hierarchy in Hospital

Updated: Feb 12, 2022

Rain is finally back! After working on his last drama titled Second Life in 2019, Rain has not appeared in dramas for two years. To start the fresh 2022, together with Kim Bum who last year appeared as the main character in the drama Law School, Rain this year is finally playing in a drama called Ghost Doctor whose first episode was just officially released on January 4!

Ghost Doctor? A story about a doctor being a ghost?

Correct! Yet actually, the main focus in this drama as a whole tells about the life story of Dr. Cha Young-Min, played by Rain. Dr. Cha Young-Min is a surgeon at a hospital who is admired and respected by all hospital staff and doctors on duty.

At the beginning of the story, the audience is treated to a scene where Dr. Cha Young-Min is still an internship doctor with little experience. Dr. Cha is forced by circumstances to make big decisions until he finally becomes a Dr. Cha now.

Dr. Cha Young-Min is known for his 'magic hands'. His 'magic hands' were the best weapon the hospital had in treating patients who had a low probability of survival. After his heroic actions in the past, Dr. Cha is capable and skilled in operating on patients who are less likely to succeed in surgery. Dr. Cha is the most skilled, respected, and respected doctor because he has a 0% failure rate in all of his surgeries and treatments! Very cool, isn't it?

Therefore, not a few young doctors were afraid and even lowered their eyes to him. The influence of Dr. Cha is very strong, he can't even carelessly treat patients with a high chance of survival because he's 'afraid' his magic hands won't work properly anymore.

Until one day, an internship doctor faced an emergency patient without a supervisor from the resident doctor on duty at the emergency department. Inevitably, he found a way out by talking to Dr. Cha who happened to pass by in his sight. The internship doctor was even scolded completely!

No one is not afraid when Dr. Cha yelled and scolded his juniors for casually asking for help with just any patient. With his cocky style, Dr. Cha left a bad impression on the internship doctor on duty even on the audience! However, because he had a higher position than them and qualified skills were like a 'treasure' that not everyone had, the people around him were unable to move.

The social power held by Dr. Cha in this drama becomes a fear for hospital staff if they have to conflict and disagree with him. Internship doctors who are still young and learning are even reluctant to look him in the eye. That's how you make the most of your expert education and valuable experiences!
